Notes for Use

Terrorism aims to provoke fear, anger, confusion and chaos. We have the power to deny terrorists what they want in the way we respond.

In the wake of a terrorist event, it is hard to know what to say or do. As community members, we have the power to start the right conversations and build our collective resilience.

These Conversation Cards can be used as a starting point for communities or classrooms trying to make sense of the scary and confusing topic of terrorism. We think the best way to approach this topic is from the point of view of those impacted most directly: survivors and victims of terrorism.

The questions and prompts in this deck of Conversation Cards come from our CONTINUUM Storytellers, from the stories they shared with us.

About this Resource

This deck of Conversation Cards has been designed with two configurations in mind:

  • The Quotes and Prompts can be printed onto one-sided cards, totalling a deck of 24 cards; or
  • The Quotes and Prompts can be printed onto double-sided cards, totalling a deck of 12 cards.

You may then wish to use the cards in pairs (one-to-one conversations, one card per person, rotating pairs) or in small groups (with a facilitator reading the Prompts and Questions out for everyone to answer). Depending on the size of your group, we suggest dedicating at least 30 minutes, but no more than 45 minutes when using these conversation cards.
